Hawaii can get pretty expensive, pretty fast! And if you’re looking to spend a decent amount of time the costs can really add up. hike is among the most popular activities on Oahu. The Diamond Head crater is perched not far from Waikiki Beach – and it’s about a 15-20 minute drive from Honolulu center.

Reservations are required to park at and visit this site, and more information is available on the State Parks website. It should take you no more than 30 minutes to reach the summit along a concrete path. Towards the end of the path, there’s a steep set of stairs and a tunnel before you come out to 360-degree views of the Honolulu area and the crater formed by an eruption thousands of years ago. The trail up was built in the early 1900s as part of the island’s defense facilities and there are several concrete bunkers at the summit. Hawaii’s Stairmaster - Koko's head creator More than 1000 steps. The hike up to the Koko Head Crater will give your legs a workout as you ascend 1048 wooden steps. The trail consists of a disused cable car track once used to transport military supplies.

Once you reach the top, you’ll get views across Hanauma Bay and Waikiki, and then on the other side, you’ll find the Koko Head Crater. Activities at the Kualoa Ranch At Kualoa Ranch, your day will be packed with adventure and stunning landscapes. Begin with an exciting ATV tour through the breathtaking Ka’a’awa Valley, also known as Hollywood’s “Hawaii Backlot,” a location for many famous film and TV productions. Afterward, take a relaxing cruise on the Secret Island beach, or opt for a horseback ride through the beautiful southern half of the ranch. Don’t forget to explore the Jungle Expedition, where you’ll wander through dense tropical forests and navigate through narrow jungle trails. Go snorkeling in Hanauma Bay.

If you’re looking for a snorkeling spot in Honolulu, you have to check out the popular Hanauma Bay. There are a number of shuttle services available to the popular bay from Honolulu. The nature reserve is open from 6.45 am to 4 pm Wednesday to Sunday (as of February 2023) and reservations are required. Entry is $25 USD per person (as of February 2023), and snorkel gear can be rented or bring your own. Lockers can also be rented on-site. China walls cliff jumping. If you ever tried water cliff jumping you probably know that it is a great thrill but if you haven’t tried it maybe this could be your first time China Walls Hawaii is definitely a good place to restart your inner adventure Depending on the surf and tide, the China Walls cliff jump can be anywhere from 5 to 15 feet high. Falls. December 2023 Update: The Maunawili Falls trail is closed indefinitely for realignment. The hike to Maunawili Falls takes you along a muddy and rocky trail adjacent to a creek. You’ll have to cross the creek a couple of times to reach the falls. After about an hour, you’ll reach the seven-metre waterfall and you can go for a swim in the waterhole. The trailhead is located off Maunawili Road in Kailua. Be aware that there’s no carpark here. Manoa Falls is also a must-see waterfall – and you

may recognize the area as this is where some of Jurassic Park was filmed. The path to the 46-meter Manoa Falls is an easy one, although it can get muddy in places. The hike is 2.6km return and takes about 45 minutes each way. Wander up to Makapu’u Point Lighthouse. If you’re sick of mud and keen for an easy hike, head along to Makapu’u Point Lighthouse – located on Oahu’s easternmost point. The lighthouse was built in 1909. The trail up to the lighthouse is paved and leads to a viewpoint out to the cliffs beyond and down to the Makapu’u Beach and tide pools. \

This airport is located in central Maui, approximately 30 minutes from Wailea and 45 minutes from Ka’anapali. Kahului airport serves inter-island, domestic, and international flights. Getting Around the Maui While Maui does have a bus system and has Uber and taxis, renting a car makes traveling around on your vacation easier. While there are five main areas on Maui, most visitors stay on either West Maui or South Maui to maximize their odds of sunshine, warm weather, and lack of rain. The 6km return hike takes you past Makahiki Falls, various swimming holes, and through a bamboo forest before you reach Maui’s tallest waterfall. The trail can be muddy and rocky in places, but people with a moderate level of fitness will easily tackle this hike. The trail takes about two hours to return, including photo stops. The most popular road trip in Maui is along the Road to Hana. This road starts from the northeast side of Maui and extends to the small village of Hana. Along the way, you’ll enjoy the island’s scenic coastline, go waterfall spotting, and check out the picturesque forested terrain. The Road to Hana is very winding and narrow with a number of one-lane bridges so care is needed. Be aware that some rental car companies don’t allow you to take the car on the Road to Hana so check with the company. You may have to arrange a tour to do the road trip. Hana Lava Tube, For a unique adventure along the Road to Hana, stop for a self-guided tour of the Hana Lava Tube, which can be found near mile marker 31. It takes no more than 40 minutes to explore about 1/3-mile of the accessible underground landscape with stalagmites and stalactites. The cave was supposedly formed about 960 years ago, from hot lava that cooled to form a top layer, and then once the lava stopped flowing it created a tube. Don't worry, there are no bats or mosquitos.

Many past visitors raved about this one-of-a-kind experience, saying that the stairs and uneven ground were relatively easy to navigate. The caves are accessible from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., every day of the year. Admission, which includes the use of flashlights, is $15; visitors ages 5 and younger can enter for free. Facilities include a visitor center, a parking lot, and a picnic shelter. If you're not up for exploring underground, you can opt to wander through the Red Ti Botanical Garden Maze instead. Jungle Zipline Tour Another fun way to enjoy your ride through Hana is to Fly through the treetops on an 8-line zipline course through the jungle environment of Haiku. This is a great activity to enjoy if you're taking a day trip on Maui's Hana Highway or visiting area waterfalls. Go cliff jumping

For an adrenaline kick, head out to Black Rock for some cliff jumping. Black Rock was formed by a lava flow and is located at the far northern end of Kaanapali Beach. The cliff jump is about four meters high. Watch out for any snorkelers passing below before you jump. Take a surfing lesson. When in Hawaii, learn to surf. Many surf schools are operating in the Kaanapali Beach region to teach you how to catch some waves.
